Real Life Stories
Carol’s Story
When I was a teenager I attended a pro-life rally with a group of college students. I was so moved by the rally and from that moment on, God placed it my heart to be involved in the pro-life movement. Little did I know that preparation for that involvement would come in the form of my own daughter’s crisis pregnancy while she was still in college.
Instead of joyous anticipation at the arrival of my first grandchild, I was filled with depression and guilt as we faced the monumental decisions that come with an unplanned pregnancy. At the time, I was unable to see how God was preparing me for ministering to others or how He was going to bring something glorious out of such a hard place. Until….
Fast forward a few years and I have a young client, “Amy,” who came to the Center with her mother. Amy had a close relationship with both her parents, but their desire for her to abort had driven a wedge between them. Amy wanted to give life to her child and when I told her that no one could force her to abort, she was noticeably relieved. We scheduled an ultrasound for later that afternoon and started praying that God would intercede on behalf of Amy and her baby.
Amy arrived for her ultrasound with her mom and all through the procedure, her mother appeared stony faced, hostile, and totally unemotional as she saw the first image of her grandchild. After the ultrasound, I nervously shared with her that MY daughter had had an unplanned pregnancy and I understood her feelings of disappointment, embarrassment, anxiety for the future, even grief. I even shared pictures of my daughter and granddaughter. Still, the mother barely uttered a word to me. I felt mildly embarrassed at having shared such personal information, and thought all attempts at reaching her had been futile.
But our gracious God came near, and through the power of His Holy Spirit, He touched this mother’s heart. When Amy walked into the room, her mother embraced her through tears. She finally spoke, thanking us for all our help and support. She even gave me a hug! She gave me another one recently when the whole family came back to the WPC. This time she was proudly holding her grandchild.
Jenny's Story
Jenny visited the Women’s Pregnancy Center last year intending to abort if she received a positive pregnancy test. Thankfully, on that day, she had a negative test result.
Jenny returned to our Center again in February of this year for another pregnancy test. This time she had a positive test result. When her counselor asked if she was considering abortion she replied that even though she had thought about it, her heart immediately told her “NO!”
When she came to the WPC last year, her counselor, Louise Walton, had shared how she could become a Christian. Although she did not invite Jesus into her heart that day, she went to church the following weekend and thought about what Louise had told her. That Sunday, Jenny asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior. That decision changed the way she looked at this unplanned pregnancy!
Kim's Story
Last summer a scared, pregnant, teenager named Kim walked into the Center wanting to know about abortion. Her situation seemed so desperate that she thought it was her only option. Kim agreed to come back a week later for an ultrasound, but even after seeing her baby’s image she still said she was going to abort. She had a friend who worked in an abortion clinic who had told her she could help her.
A few months later, Kim called the Center asking for proof of pregnancy - she had decided to give life to her baby! She said she could not go through with the abortion, however, she had plans to attend college so she was still uncertain as to whether she would parent or place her child for adoption.
Kim considered all her options: abortion, adoption and parenting. In the end, she decided to put off school for a year so that she could parent. The last time we talked with Kim was shortly after she had given birth to a beautiful baby girl. As she held her baby, she happily announced, “I’m so glad I chose to be a mom!”
