What Are My Second-Trimester Pregnancy Options?

The second trimester of pregnancy starts at 13 weeks and ends at 27 weeks. At the time of writing, Florida restricts abortion to a couple of weeks into the second trimester at week 15.

If you are in your second trimester of pregnancy, here are the options open to you in Florida.

1.Surgical Abortion (Up to 15 Weeks)

Abortion is legal for up to 15 weeks in Florida, which means surgical abortion is legally available at the beginning of the second trimester.

A dilation & curettage (D&C) abortion uses a mixture of surgical tools and suction to remove a pregnancy and related tissue from the body.

The risks of a surgical abortion include uterine perforation (poking a hole in the uterus), damage to the cervix, scar tissue on the uterine wall, and infection.

2.Adoption

Adoption is another option available. This is a great alternative if you don’t want to abort but also feel you can’t raise the child at this time.

As a birth mother in Florida, you have the right to decide how much contact you will have with your child. You can have a lot, some, or none at all.

If you have questions about adoption, please contact us at the Woman’s Pregnancy Center of Ocala. Our staff can provide you with information on adoption.

3.Parenting

A third option would be to parent your child. This can be scary, especially if your pregnancy is unexpected or the circumstances in your life are not ideal.

At Women’s Pregnancy Center, we want you to know that we are here to support you and provide community referrals for whatever you might need. In fact, if you are looking for support, we have two options available:

  • Parenting Classes

We have an 8-week parenting class that will provide you with the basics of raising your child. Through class attendance, you can also earn baby items in our boutique.

  • Pregnancy Support Groups

If you are a single mother, we can provide you with a support group, linking you with other new moms to walk through the uncertainties of parenting together. They will even provide you with a baby shower!

If you are interested in more information on any of these options, please contact us at Women’s Pregnancy of Ocala. We would love to help you find the answers you need.
